Tongues are weird. I feel like we can all just admit that to ourselves. But desire their weirdness, tongues should be clean. Or at least I want my tongue to be clean.
I use to scrape my tongue with the back of my toothbrush but oh girl, let me tell you. That is NOT good enough! Let’s get into this “new” (but secretly people have been doing it for thousands of years) trend of tongue scraping and why quite literally everyone need to do it.
Let’s be clear, you need to brush your teeth. This does not substitute for brushing your teeth. Okay now we can proceed.
What is it?
Tongue scraping is the process of using an object (tongue scraper) to remove excess particles, toxins, bacteria, + more. The gross white layer on your tongue in the morning is actually your body’s way of ridding itself of those things. However, we usually just drink water or coffee immediately and swallow that all back again. Yuck. So you need to properly remove it.

How to do it
Start at the back of your tongue and pull everything forward between 5-15 times. Go as far back as you can without making yourself sick. Rinse off the scraper after each scrape. Then clean off the tongue scraper with soap. Do this first thing in the morning before brushing your teeth or drinking anything.
