How To Get Rid Of Sinus Congestion

It's not the sexiest topic I could have chosen, believe me I know, but it's oh so real.

There are few worse feelings than feeling like you can't breathe, blowing your nose every 3 minutes, and having intense sinus pain all over your face.

You just want to FEEL BETTER! I know this because I've been struggling with sinus infections my whole life but have recently been able to fight them off with natural and holistic practices I'm sharing with you.

1. Lemon water + ACV

You need to drink as much clear liquid as possible when sick (we all know that one). But apple cider vinegar actually helps clear sinuses because of it's antioxidant, antiseptic, antibacterial, and antihistamine benefits. Add 1 TSP-1 TBSP to 6-8 oz. of water and drink 1-3 times a day.

2. Probiotics + Immune Boosting Foods

You want to make sure your body has the proper bacteria to fight off the bacterial infection that's going on in your body (as evidenced by the gross colored stuff coming out of your nose). Our gut holds up to 80% of our immune system so feeding it good bacteria will aid in boosting your immunity.

Some immune boosting foods also include anything with antioxidants and good bacteria. Think: fermented foods, kombucha, berries, turmeric, pomegranate, spinach, and kale.

3. Steam With Peppermint Oil

Steaming is one of the best ways to open up your sinuses and relieve pain in your head. It keeps your nose moist so everything can properly come out. Peppermint oil's main component is menthol which is one of the most effective ingredients to opening up your sinuses and relieving sinus coughs. Try peppermint oil in a bath, in the bottom/walls of your shower, or in a bowl of steaming water with a towel over your head for 5-10 minutes.

4. Sinus Essential Oil Roller Ball

There are so many recipes for receiving sinus pain, pressure, and congestion but three powerful oils to combine are peppermint, lavender, and eucalyptus. You can find a recipe here. Apply to the bridge of your nose, behind ears, wrists, under your nose, and on chest.

5. Diffuse + Diffuse Again

When you sleep you need to make sure you have moisture in the air so you can properly breathe. At night I like to diffuse lavender, peppermint, and purification to help me breathe like I don't have a raging headache.

6. Gargle With Salt Water

This is incredibly helpful to soothe your throat because by this point your throat is so sore from coughing that mixing sea salt and water and gargling morning + night is an extremely effective way to relieve throat pain and clear up the gunk going on.

I've been using these natural + holistic remedies along with sleeping plenty, eating well, and taking my supplements and in a few days time I am almost fully healed from what I thought was a serious sinus infection that before I would have seen a doctor for.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes going to the doctor is unavoidable but if we can try healing our bodies naturally before reaching for medicine or antibiotics, it serves our bodies in the long run.
