(If you're ready to get yours, here's our favorite roller!)

Everyone wants glowing skin. But how do you get it? It's no surprise that when we look for something new, it's best to look in the past first.

When you dive deep into ways to improve the quality, brightness, and glow of your skin, there pops up an interesting stone: Jade. A jade stone has been used in skincare since the 7th century in China. It has been used as a spiritual practice but also a well kept beauty secret. Lucky for us, the secret is now very much out in the open.

A jade roller usually consists of a rod of jade that uses metal to attach  a 1-2 inch thick large jade cylinder and on the other end a ball or much smaller cylinder (usually used for under the eyes).

I have been using a jade roller for the past six months all due to Aja Dang on YouTube . She showed me what a jade roller was, how to use it, and it's incredible benefits. I'm a sucker for anything to help make  my skin look beautiful. And if it doesn't cost me $100? I'm in!

What does a jade roller actually do?

There are incredible benefits to using a jade roller daily on your face. Some of these benefits include releasing tension from the muscles in your face. Throughout the day, we hold a tremendous amount of tension in our face muscles (Just take a moment to relax your jaw. See? The tension is real). This tension can eventually cause wrinkles and lines as well as speed up the aging process. No, thank you! In order to avoid this, it’s important that we release that tension from our face. Using a jade roller does exactly that. It is basically like a mini-facial you don’t have to pay someone else to give you.

A jade roller also increases the circulation in your skin. This gives your skin a brightness and helps to even out your complexion.  Along with the spiritual side of the stone, jade was chosen because of its natural cooling properties. This mini-facial also helps to de-puff your face because it is a naturally cool stone.

Just like when you put ice on an inflamed part of your body, the concept is the same with jade. Any kind of inflammation or puffiness in your face, when encountered with the cold jade, goes down. You can increase the effects of this by putting your jade roller in the fridge or even the freezer before using it. This incredible benefit of using a jade roller also applies to the under eyes which we will get to in just a minute.

One of my personal favorite benefits of using a jade roller daily is lymphatic drainage. I am slightly obsessed with making sure that my lymphatic system is properly drained each and every day.

Why? Because your “lymph vessels transport numerous substances (i.e., proteins, toxins, hormones, fatty acids, immune cells) to the lymph nodes, which can then process them. The action of these muscular units can be hindered or stopped, however, due to fatigue, stress, lack of physical activity, emotional shock, cold temperatures, infections, substantial swelling, age, chemicals or food additives.” SO clearly, it’s important to not only our immune system but our overall health and prevention of disease.

As you can see, a jade roller has some incredible benefits when used regularly.

So how do you actually use it?

Depending on the day, I use mine differently. I keep mine in the refrigerator and once I wake up and wash my face, I then roll my jade roller all over my face, neck, and chest. It is recommended that you use your jade roller at night with oil or even a night cream on to help the the oil deeply penetrate your skin for maximum hydration. If you have a paper face mask on, a jade roller can be beneficial to helping your skin absorb the moisture in the face mask.

Or, you can use it a little differently. You can also use your jade roller in the morning time after you have put on your moisturizer but before your makeup. The way I like to use my jade roller and that I have found to be the most effective, is to take the dade roller from the middle of your face and move outwards.

Why do we move outwards?

Your lymphatic drainage points in your face are right underneath your earlobes. So you always want to be working towards that point in order to move your lymph up and out. Try rolling the stone over one spot of your face three times each and then move to another section. When you get to your forehead, you will obviously be working downwards. On your neck, your drainage points are right above your collarbone. You want to start at the top of your chin and move your jade roller down. Again, we are always working towards the lymphatic drainage points. (However, when you put on moisturizer you always want to move your skin up words to avoid pulling your skin down and causing sagging).

Most jade rollers have a large and a small end. I use the small end to de-puff under my eyes. I roll it back and forth and sometimes hold in a particular area that might be very puffy. If you find that one area of your face is really puffy, you can hold the jadestone there for a few extra seconds to take down the inflammation.

Having a practice of using a jade roller everyday is not only good for hydration, lymphatic drainage, circulation, and smooth skin, but it also helps you to develop a self care routine and spend a few extra moments every single day giving yourself something special. I usually jade roll for no more than 3 minutes every morning and let's be honest we can all add 3 extra minutes to our morning routine for beautiful skin!

Are you hooked yet?!

This jade roller is my favorite because it also has the under-eye attachment and is grat quality:

When I use it consistently, I see huge improvements in my skin and I cannot wait to hear the improvements that you will see!

What are your experiences with jade rollers and if you have none what do you hope to get out of using one regularly? Let us know in the comment!
