My Top Healthy Drinking Tips

Funny story. When I was younger (aka 21 and under) I said I would never drink. I have a history of excessive drinking in my family background and I didn’t see the point of it. If we’re being really honest I don’t always see the point in drinking now.

But every now and then I’ll grab a drink or a beer. On the RARE occasion, I’ll have one too many but thank goodness my controlling self never lets me have too many but I have learned a thing or two about how to drink in the healthiest way possible so let’s dive in.

First and foremost girl you have GOT to stay hydrated. Between every shot or every drink have a glass of water. I’m talking at least 8 ounces. Even better if you can add some lemon or lime to the water to aid in natural detoxification of the body.

Now that you’re hydrated, you want to make smart choices. We all know not to mix our alcohol (I made that mistake on New Years and felt like a bag of trash that had been lit on fire). But you should also take a look at what you’re putting into your drinks. Opt for quality alcohol, lots of citrus and herbs, and no sodas. My favorite mixer is kombucha because I know I’m doing something good for my gut at the same time I’m destroying it with the alcohol. So it evens out, right?

Supplement up before you go out. Pop a probiotic, a digestive enzyme, heck even a food nutrient complex if you’re feeling frisky. Don’t neglect your supplements just because you’re having a crazy night. Your body will thank you for this.

Know your limits. I know this sounds simple but know what your limits are and try to stick to them. If you’re getting fuzzy at 3 drinks, stock up on some water and dance the night away or call an Uber and go back home. There’s no shame in knowing when to call it quits. Plus no one wants to feel like a pile of on fire garbage in the morning.

Lastly, plan what you’re going to eat. This one is often inevitable. You go out. You get hungry. What do you get?! Have food premade at home or decide before you go out what you’ll get to eat. This will save you money and the effort of making the decision once you’ve been drinking. Plus, you’ll often make a healthier choice when you’re sober.

So cheers and enjoy your time out, at home, or wherever you might be. Just drink some freaking water too please.
