Puppy Oil Recipes | Crying, Sleeping, Washing, Spay, + Fleas
Within the past year I became a bit obsessed with doggos. I blame it on someone introducing me to the greatest Facebook group ever, Dogspotting. Basically, it’s like a sport and you spot dogs that aren’t yours out in public or in yards. It’s a life changing group.
Anyways, since then I have fostered two puppies and I live with another doggo (my nephew Hudson). Dogs, especially puppies, have a lot of the same problems we do. So I knew I’d be tackling these not with conventional medicine (although don’t worry they get their shots and proper medication) or by just suffering through. If you have struggled with a crying pup, dry skin, healing after a spay/neuter, fleas, or a pup sleeping I’ve got the recipes for you.
It works like magic. If I didn’t know the science behind oils, I’d say they were magic. But they’re just good ole fashion essential oil fairy dust.
**Please note: ONLY USE doTERRA OILS ON YOUR PUPS! They will lick them or ingest them and if it is not 100% pure it can cause serious damage to their bodies. Please be responsible around your puppy.**
Recipe For Crying + Sleeping
When you have a puppy crying or trying to sleep, it’s essential that we calm them down. Here’s what I’ve found to work the best.
1-3 drops lavender oil (depending on their size/age)
10-20 drops coconut oil or 1 TBSP in a bowl
Mix together + rub into spine, paws, and tips of ears.
Recipe For Washing
When washing my pup for fleas, poop, etc. this is the recipe I’ll use.
1-2 drops lavender
1 drop eucalyptus
1 drop lemongrass (amazing for keeping fleas away)
Mix it into a shampoo and wash them like normal starting at the neck and working down.
Recipe For Spay/Neuter Spots
When our first pup Romey was spayed I knew I needed to make something. She loved to roll around in the dirt and I didn’t want her to become infected. This worked like a charm and helped her tummy to avoid razor burn, rashes, and healed the stitches quickly.
3 drops lavender
3 drops Frankincense
2 TBSP coconut oil
Mix together in a bowl and apply 2-3 times a day to affected area with a clean Q-tip.
Recipe For Fleas (getting rid of them that is)
No one wants fleas on their doggo so this spray can be used as a preventative measure or reactive to if your dog currently does have fleas.
5 drops lavender
5 drops lemongrass
(optional 1-2 drops eucalyptus)
Fill up with water in a 2 oz. glass bottle.
Spray on your pet once a day or twice daily if affected.
We love our doggos probably as much as we love ourselves so it’s important that we give them the best health care we can and for me and my dogs, that starts with oils!
