How To Beat The Winter Blues


You’re chugging right along in life and then BAM! You get smacked with winter. It’s cold, rainy, snowy, and all you want to do it snuggle up in bed.

I’m writing this post for me as much as I am for you. I've been struggling with motivation to keep going because all I want to do is stay wrapped in my warm blanket surrounded by my fluffy pillows in the morning.

So here are 10 ways to beat off the winter blues.

  1. Get a hobby

    It’s so easy to pass the time watching Netflix or scrolling on Instagram. But really you’re not doing anything to advance your health or you wellbeing. So instead of getting lost online, try taking up a new hobby that will be beneficial to you and keep you occupied during dull moments.

  2. Get Vitamin-D

    Get outside! I know it’s cold (see #3 for how to combat this) but it’s so important to get in Vitamin-D to maintain bone health, absorbing calcium, and having high energy levels. But be sure to put on sunscreen before you get out in the winter sun!

  3. Embrace + prepare for the cold

    It’s cold. We all need to face it. So make sure you’re prepared and bundled up. That way, the cold blast won’t be a shock and instead you’re ready to tackle any weather that comes your way!

  4. Eat warming foods

    Embrace the coldness by creating warming foods like veggie curries, soups, stews, baked potatoes, or chili. Nothing is better on a cold winter day than a warm bowl of nutritious food.

  5. Use uplifting essential oils

    Anytime I want to change my mood, I use essential oils to rewire my brain. My favorite ones to diffuse or make a roller ball and apply to my temples, neck, and perfume spots are Motivate, Peppermint, Wild Orange, and Cheer.

  6. Get off of your phone + into the present moment

    I find the biggest drain to my energy levels really is technology. I’m on it all of the time for my business but stepping away from technology has been life changing. Seriously. Try doing a little detox from it and engage and enjoy the present moment!

  7. Plan dates with friends

    This seems easy but plan actual dates you want to do with people you actually want to see. This will help get you out of the house and once you’re out, you’re going to have a great time. Friends are my favorite way to pull myself out of a funk.

  8. Get in regular movement

    This is a no brainer. Movement is essential to cellular energy and feeling healthy and well. Even if it’s a walk outside or a 30 minute yoga session, move that body.

  9. Try something new + fun

    Get exploring! Embrace the winter activities and go to a movie, cuddle up at a hotel’s cozy lobby, go on a ride around a new town, play in the snow, or even dare I say it, try ice skating. These activities will keep your mood high and prevent you from falling into the trap of having nothing to look forward to.

  10. Stay on top of water + supplements

    MAJOR KEY RIGHT HERE. Even though it’s cold, you have to stay hydrated. Your entire body depends on it. Drink warm water or tea if you can’t stand the cold water.
